Denali National Park offers guests beautiful natural scenery
An Alaskan cruise is a great way to experience the great outdoors, and travelers will have a wonderful opportunity to do just that when they visit Denali National Park.
Denali is perhaps best known as the home of Mount McKinley, which, at 20,320-feet tall, is the highest point in North America. Yet McKinley isn't the only reason to visit this protected park. All sorts of wildlife roam over the six million acres park, including eagles, caribou and grizzly bears.
As beautiful as Denali is, guests who quickly plan a trek will miss out on much of the rich history of this gorgeous area. Organized tours are one way to learn about Denali, but those who prefer to strike out by themselves can check out the Denali Visitor's Center. This structure functions as a museum, with a number of exhibits dedicated to the region's wildlife, mining interests and the Athabascan people who call the area home.
For those less adventurous travelers, the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge is a safe and secure mansion built in the middle of the woods that will tend to all of a traveler's needs. It can be relaxing just to spend some time here and take in the scenery before the cruise ship leaves for the next destination.
Anchorage, Alaska, offers something for everyone
The worst part of an Alaska cruise is when it's over. Fortunately, travelers looking to extend their vacation can do so either before arrival or after they disembark with land vacation packages in the city of Anchorage, Alaska.
For a combination of nature and culture, try the package that includes a trip to both the Alaskan Wildlife Conservation Center and the Anchorage Museum of History and Art. The conservation center will allow travelers a chance to get up close and personal with a wide variety of species, while the museum offers exhibits on art, history, science and more.
Those who aren't interested in a tour have plenty of options as well, including simply taking some free time to explore Anchorage on their own. There's plenty of opportunities here for dining, shopping and all sorts of other fun before the ship takes off again.
Travelers who chose an Alaskan cruise in order to avoid cities and civilization have some options as well. Anchorage provides the opportunity to explore the nearby Portage Glacier, a massive mountain of ice. Cruises in Prince William Sound offer plenty of chances to catch a glimpse of the unique wildlife that calls the area home, and self-sufficient explorers can even rent kayaks to plan their own treks.

"Awaken your love of the great outdoors when you experience the boundless splendor of the Alaska wilderness on board a cruise ship. Alaska: Mother Nature's piece de resistance. It is, quite simply, the world in its purest form. Imagine vast glacial fields juxtaposed against immense evergreen forests, infinite fields of wildflowers, and heady rushing waterfalls. Nowhere on earth is as diverse as The Last Frontier as seen in the summertime. Oh, and do not forget to pack your sun block. Summer temperatures in Alaska are mild and the days last well into the night."
