Learn About Denali Land & Sea Journeys
Alaska Cruises. They're not just a vacation.
They're the time of your life!
Cruising Alaska is about more than just moments.
Cruising Alaska is about memories that last
Big, bold and impossibly beautiful, Alaska
stretches beyond the imagination, particularly
in her southeastern seas where many ships sail.
Ancient glaciers glint majestically, as
snow-mantled mountains soar into the cerulean
sky. The deep harbors and frontier towns welcome
visitors with open arms, eager to reveal their
riches. The possibilities are endless, inviting
excursions of untold discovery and delight. Up
north there's a land without fences. Animals
outnumber people, sunlight shines at midnight
and nature reigns. Life is different.
This northern frontier still boasts pristine
landscapes, majestic wildlife and a coastline
that is one of the most enthralling waterways in
DENALI LAND & SEA JOURNEYS
An Alaska cruise vacation is an
experience you won’t soon forget. Untamed,
immense and magnificent, the Great Land is a
place of astonishing beauty. First, we’ve been
showing guests this breathtaking region since
1999. And because we know this region so well,
we’ve been able to curate a fantastic selection
of Land and Sea Journeys, combining an Alaska
cruise with a more extensive adventure in the
Without a doubt, the jewel in Alaska’s crown is
Denali National Park and Preserve. At six
million pristine acres, the Park is home to
moose, caribou, wolves, Dall sheep, grizzly
bears and North America’s highest peak, Mt.
Denali (formerly Mt. McKinley), more than 20,000
Almost as large as the state of Massachusetts,
Denali National Park is the first and last stop
on any adventure into Alaska’s wild. At some
24,500 square kilometers (or 6 million acres)
including the surrounding preserve, it is the
third-largest national park in the United
States, after two other Alaska parks:
Wrangell-St. Elias and the Gates of the Arctic.
The park offers excellent chances for seeing
wildlife, including moose, wolves, caribou, Dall
sheep and grizzly bears. Presiding over it is
the tallest peak in North America, Denali
(formerly Mount McKinley), which means “the tall
one” in a name derived from Koyukon, a language
traditionally spoken by the Athabascan people of
Alaska. The soaring mountain divides the park
into north and south sides. The south side is
most popular with mountain climbers and those on
flightseeing tours, while the north is where the
bulk of visitors go, traveling along Park Road,
which winds for 148 kilometers (92 miles)
through Denali National Park. Visitors can
sightsee the entire way via the green Visitor
Transportation System shuttle buses, which stop
at various hiking trails.
The mighty mountain is actually not visible from
the entrance of the park that bears its name;
some of the best vantage points from which to
see it are between miles 9 and 11 on Park Road.
Other notable sites include the Husky Homestead,
an Iditarod-training center for husky sled dogs,
while the kid-friendly Murie Science and
Learning Center showcases a fossilized footprint
of a three-toed Cretaceous-era theropod
dinosaur, found in the park in 2005

Depending on your itinerary, you can board the
luxurious rail cars from Anchorage to Denali and
dine in grand style as you drink in majestic
views from your domed railcar! Get a closer look
at Mt. Denali and Alaska’s iconic wildlife on a
guided Tundra Wildlife Tour. If your travels
include Fairbanks, you’ll embark on the
sternwheeler Discovery for a river cruise.
Travel back through time to the Klondike Gold
Rush era on a tour of Alaska’s famed Gold Dredge
8. Ride the rails to Talkeetna and wander its
historic downtown. And on an overnight stay in
Anchorage, enjoy a Portage Glacier cruise.
There are also many opportunities to explore
Denali. Rise high above the Park on a helicopter
ride over the Alaska Range, Cantwell Glacier and
valleys hewn by massive rivers of ice. Explore
the Stampede Trail on an amphibious ATV. Gear up
with a dedicated fly fisherman and embark on a
guided expedition to Fish Creek. Take off across
a snowfield with a dogsled team. The Alaska
adventure you’ve always dreamed of is waiting.
Alaska's magnificent coastline is every bit as
impressive as its backcountry and there's no
better way to experience it than in the comfort
of an Alaska cruise. All Denali Land and Sea
Journeys include a 7-day Glacier Discovery
cruise that takes you through Canada’s famed
Inside Passage and into Glacier Bay National
Park, a spectacular area we know very well.
Cruise ships were designed not to tower over the
scenery, but to bring you closer to Alaska’s
natural wonders. So just relax and enjoy scenes
of unimaginable grandeur from the ship’s
expansive, wide-open decks or from your suite’s
private verandah [balcony], as a warm and
gracious staff tends to your every need.
